Thewa is an art form practiced in Chittor in Rajasthan and involves fusing an intricately worked thin sheet of gold (which comprises the design) into handmade, molten, colored glass. When set, the plaque can be mounted on a frame, to create jewellery or boxes, vases and goblets. The original thewa artisans also make fashioned boxes and sindoor ka dibbas. The final product looks very glamorous, with peacocks and hunting scenes as the motifs, the process involved is both elaborate and requires skilful precision.
