In this French scientist painting Pierre-Simon, Marquis de Laplace (March 23, 1749 - March 5, 1827) was a French mathematician and astronomer who put the final capstone on mathematical astronomy by summarizing and extending the work of his predecessors in his five volumes (Celestial Mechanics) (1799-1825). This masterpiece translated the geometrical study of classical mechanics used by Isaac Newton to one based on calculus, known as physical mechanics.

He also formulated the Lap lace’s equation. The Laplace transform appears in all branches of mathematical physics. He became count of the Empire in 1806 and was named a marquis in 1817 after the restoration of the Bourbons. Pierre Simon Laplace was born in Beaumont-en-Auge, Normandy, the son of a small cottager or perhaps farm-laborers, and owed his education to the interest excited in some wealthy neighbors by his abilities and engaging presence. He is remembered as one of the greatest scientists. He died in Paris in 1827.
