In this German Scientist painting Albert Einstein (March 14, 1879 - April 18, 1955) was a German-born theoretical physicist. He is best known for his theory of relativity and specifically mass-energy equivalence, E = mc2. Einstein received the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics "for his services to Theoretical Physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect."

Albert Einstein was born into a Jewish family in Ulm, Wberg, Germany. His father was Hermann Einstein, a salesman. His mother was Pauline Einstein. Although Albert had early speech difficulties, he was a top student in elementary school. Einstein married Mileva Mar January 6, 1903. Einstein became a citizen of the United States in 1940, although he retained his Swiss citizenship.

On April 17, 1955, Albert Einstein died from aortic aneurism. Einstein's remains were cremated and his ashes were scattered (O'Connor & Robertson 1997). Before the cremation, Princeton Hospital pathologist Thomas Stoltz Harvey removed Einstein's brain for preservation, in hope that the neuroscience of the future would be able to discover what made Einstein so intelligent.
